Here is just a simple list of options for the back hedge and some more shade tolerant plants for the understory. I did not include the Chindo Viburnum since you already already familiar. Let me know if any of these would be an option. We would create a pattern so that it’s not just a dark hedge.
Back Row Hedge
- Linebacker Distylium — Not as tall, but different. Don’t have the same disease problems as Cherry Laurels
- Sea Foam Camellia —Again, only 10 feet tall, but beautiful flowers in the winter months.

- Sunshine Ligustrum — smaller, but adds pops of color
- Carolina Sapphire Cypress
- Radicans Cryptomeria
- Little Gem Magnolia
- Canadian Hemlock
- Highlights Arborvitae
- Green Giant Arborvitae — Emerald / Emerald Green is the same but 15′ tall by 6′ wide
- Gold Rider Leyland Cypress —- there is another plain Leyland Cypress that doesn’t have the yellow flair.
- Centre Court Cherry Laurel
- Golden Oakland Holly
- Tea Olive
- Nellie Stevens Holly
